13 December, 1943, after 12.22.15 crewmembers of
U-172 can be seen floating in the water among oil patches, sustained by their life jackets or their Dräger Tauchretttern. It is probable that these were the 15 survivors recovered by USS Clemson sometime between 12.40 and 13.15. Note anew the absence of bullet splashes and the height and strength of the waves, stirred by a 20 knot 068º wind.
