The House and Merit Order of Peter Frederick Louis was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich August of Oldenburg on November 27, 1838. The order came in eight classes:
Awards could be made with swords to denote war merit, though this was rare. Schultze received the Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Silver Crown and Swords. Von Heimburg was awarded the Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Swords. The prewar award to Peterson was the Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Crown of the order while von Hennig, von Münch, and Schmitz received the Knight’s Cross 2nd Class.
