USS S-42 (Lt. O.G. Krik) torpedoed the Japanese minelayer Okinoshima (4470 tons, offsite link) west of Buka Island, Solomon Islands in position 05?06'S, 153?48'E. The Japanese minelayer is heavily damaged and sank the next day.
