At 1410A/22, HMS Tempest (Lt.Cdr. W.A.K.N. Cavaye, RN) sighted a 2000 tons merchant vessel in position 36°36'N, 03°01'W, which turned out to be Spanish proceeding on course 085° at a speed of 7 to 8 knots. HMS Tempest then carried out a practice attack.
1630A/22, in approximately the same position two rather small merchant vessels were sighted. These too carried Spanish markings and were also proceeding westwards on course 085°.
