The British merchant Sandsend is torpedoed and sunk 254 nautical miles west-north-west of Rockall in position 58°12'N, 21°29'W by German U-boat U-48. HMS Hibiscus (Lt.Cdr. R. Phillips, RNR) later picks up 34 survivors.

9 Aug 1941
HMS Zinnia (Lt.Cdr. C.G. Cuthberston, DSC, RNR) picks up 3 survivors from the British merchant Cape Rodney that foundered west of Ushant in position 52°44'N, 11°41'W after being torpedoed and damaged on 5 August 1941 west of Ireland in position 53°26'N, 15°40'W by German U-boat U-75.
