Career information
Antoine Herbert (Bert) Cassivi, RCN(R) was born April 11, 1904, in Cap-Os-Aux, Gaspe, P.Q. He was the 7th child of 13 siblings born to William Cassivi and Margaret Lemieux. In 1931, he served as XO (Executive Officer) of HMCS MONT JOLI. The following year, Lt. Cassivi became XO of the trawler HMCS MACSIN. He was appointed XO of the HMCS ARRAS (Gate Vessel) in 1941, followed shortly after by his promotion as Commanding Officer of HMCS RACOON. At the end of WW2, he joined the RCMP and died as an INSPECTOR (Marine Division) on Feb. 14, 1983. He was married to Margaret (Benoit) and had one child, Catherine (Kate).
