The British merchant Fort la Maune is torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-188 east-north-east of Socotra Island in position 13º04'N, 56º30'E. HMS Nigella (T/Lt. C.L.L. Davies, RNVR) later picks up 56 survivors.
