History
Notes on loss At 02.46 hours on 30 Jul, 1941, the Sitoebondo, dispersed from convoy OS-1, was hit by a torpedo from U-371 after they had witnessed the sinking of Shahristan about one hour earlier by the same U-boat. She sank after being hit by two coups de grâce at 02.54 and 03.37 hours. The 71 crew members and six passengers had abandoned ship in three lifeboats after the first hit when the stern settled. The occupants of two boats were picked up by the Spanish tanker Campeche the next day. Two crew members on a raft were rescued by the Spanish tanker Campero after about six days. The 17 crew members and two passengers in the last boat were never found.
