| Notes on loss | At 21.34 hours on 19 Dec, 1941, the unescorted Varlaam Avanesov was hit by a torpedo from U-652 and sank after about 2 hours 2,5 miles off Cape Baba. All crew members abandoned ship in the lifeboats and reached the Turkish coast. | ||
