On 27 January 1945 U-825 fired torpedoes at convoy HX-332 off Cardigan Bay after it formed two columns to enter the St. George’s Channel and reported three detonations and one ship probably sunk. In fact, Solør and Ruben Dario were hit by one torpedo each.

The Ruben Dario (Master Ernest Frederick Carlsson) in station #16 was hit on the starboard side in the #2 hold. The explosion destroyed the bulkhead between #1 and #2 holds and caused the flooding of both holds. When the ship settled by the bow the engines were secured, but after a survey the ship got underway again at 9 knots, rejoined convoy after three hours and the next day arrived at Liverpool, where she was repaired and returned to service. Only one crewman of the nine officers, 32 crewmen, 27 armed guards (the ship was armed with one 5in, one 3in and eight 20mm guns) and five passengers on board was injured, he was lying on the #2 hatch when the torpedo hit.
