Notes on event | At 06.31 hours on 24 Sep 1941, U-107 attacked convoy SL-87 southwest of Madeira and reported three ships sunk. These ships were John Holt, Lafian and Dixcove. The John Holt (Master Cecil Gordon Hime) was the ship of convoy commodore Cdr A. MacRae, DSC, RNR. The master, the commodore, five naval staff members, 45 crew members, seven gunners and nine passengers were picked up by HMS Gorleston (Y 92) (Cdr R.W. Keymer, (retired), RN) and landed at Ponta Delgada, Azores. One gunner was lost. | ||
