Notes on event | At 03.24 hours on 9 August 1942 the unescorted San Emiliano (Master James Wilfred Tozer), dispersed from convoy E-7, was hit by one of two torpedoes from U-155 about 450 miles west of Trinidad and sank in flames after breaking in two. The U-boat had to avoid the flames on the water surface by diving. The master, 33 crew members and six gunners were lost. Eight crew members were picked up by a US Army transport and landed at Paramaribo, Suriname. | ||
