Notes on loss

At 04.00 hours on 17 Oct, 1941, the Barfonn (Master Erling Ellingsen Vorberg) in station #53 of convoy SC-48 was hit in the engine room by a torpedo from U-432 and sank after being hit by a coup de grâce from the same U-boat at 04.48 hours. 13 crew members and one gunner were lost. Two crew members were picked up by HMCS Baddeck (K 147) (T/Lt A.H. Easton, RCNR) and the master, 22 crew members and one gunner were picked up by HMCS Wetaskiwin (K 175) (LtCdr G.S. Windeyer, RCN) from a lifeboat. All were landed at Reykjavik on 24 October.
