| Notes on loss | At 01.20 hours on 23 Feb, 1942, the unescorted George L. Torian (Master John Allan) was hit in the foreship by one torpedo from U-129 and sank by the bow after 28 seconds about 120 miles south-southeast of Trinidad. The U-boat had spotted the ship more than 4 hours earlier and missed her with a stern torpedo at 24.00 hours on 22 February. The master and 14 crew members were lost. Four crew members were rescued by a flying boat of the US Navy and landed at Trinidad. | ||
