Notes on event | At 21.18 hours on 14 March 1942 the unescorted British Resource (Master James Kennedy) was hit fore and aft by two torpedoes from U-124 about 230 miles north of Bermuda. The ship stopped and the gunners began firing at the periscope, so at 21.33 hours a coup de grâce was fired which hit near the engine room and set the tanker completely on fire. She burned until she sank the next day. 43 crew members and three gunners were lost. The master, the third radio operator and three gunners were picked up by HMS Clarkia (K 88) (LtCdr F.J.G. Jones, RNR) and landed at Hamilton, Bermuda. | ||
