| Notes on loss | At 03.13 hours on 1 May, 1942, U-589 fired a spread of two torpedoes at the convoy QP-11 and heard a detonation after 5 minutes. The Tsiolkovskij was damaged and later sunk as straggler by the German destroyers Z-24 and Z-25. The survivors were picked up by HMS Lord Middleton (FY 219) (Lt R.H. Jameson). | ||
