| Notes on loss | At 05.52 hours on 12 May, 1942, the unescorted Nicoya (Master Ernest Henry Brice) was torpedoed by U-553 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence south of Anticosti Island and sank following a coup de grāce at 06.11 hours. Five crew members and one gunner were lost. The master, 62 crew members, nine gunners and ten passengers landed at Fame Point Lighthouse, Gaspe Peninsula, New Brunswick. | ||
