Notes on event

At 05.52 hours on 12 May 1942 the unescorted Nicoya (Master Ernest Henry Brice) was torpedoed by U-553 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence south of Anticosti Island and sank following a coup de grĂ¢ce at 06.11 hours. Five crew members and one gunner were lost. The master, 62 crew members, nine gunners and ten passengers landed at Fame Point Lighthouse, Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec.
