Notes on loss

At 21.50 hours on 5 Jun, 1942, U-94 sighted a sailing ship without markings in the blockade area and began shelling the ship without warning at 22.10 hours. The neutral Maria da Gloria (Master S. Ramalheira) stopped after being hit by two rounds, the U-boat ceased fire and the crew abandoned ship. At 22.50 hours, the schooner was sunk by gunfire. Two crew members had been killed and 34 were never seen again. Eight survivors were rescued.
