Notes on event | At 21.30 hours on 21 January 1940 the unescorted Ferryhill (Master Williamson John Taylor Stephen) struck a mine laid on 20 December 1939 by U-22 and sank 1.5 miles north of St. Mary’s Lighthouse near Blyth. The master and ten crew members were lost. Two crew members were picked up by the British M/S trawler HMS Young Jacob (FY 975) (Skipper T. Williamson, RNR) and landed at North Shields. | ||
