At 01.44 hours on 25 Jul, 1942, the unescorted Telamon (Master C.G. Niemann) was hit forward on the starboard side by a G7a torpedo from U-160 and caused the ship to sink, breaking in two three minutes after the hit. The explosion had destroyed the starboard lifeboat, so the crew tried to launch the port boat but the ship sank too fast and they were forced to abandon ship on rafts. The master and 22 crew members were lost. 14 survivors were picked up after several hours by the British steam merchant Canadoc and landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
