Notes on event

At 13.35 hours on 1 August 1942 the St. Simon was shelled by U-77 with seven rounds from the deck gun after the crew had abandoned ship and sank in flames about 35 miles northwest of Beirut. The survivors were later picked up by a motor torpedo boat and landed at Limassol.
