| Notes on loss | At 01.00 hours on 27 Aug, 1942, the unescorted Clan Macwhirter (Master Roderick Sutherland Masters), a straggler from convoy SL-119, was torpedoed and sunk by U-156 200 miles northwest of Madeira. The master, eight crew members and two gunners were lost. 68 crew members and seven gunners were picked up by the Portuguese sloop Pedro Nunes (A 528) and landed at Funchal. | ||
