| Notes on loss | At 05.57 hours on 3 Sep, 1942, U-107 attacked an unescorted convoy of five ships three miles 112° from Cape Sines near Setubal, Portugal. First the Hollinside was hit by one of two fired bow torpedoes and six minutes later the Penrose by one of two fired stern torpedoes. The Hollinside was hit by a coup de grāce at 06.26 hours and sank by the stern at 07.36 hours after a second coup de grāce at 07.32 hours had missed. The Penrose sank by the stern five minutes after being hit by a coup de grāce at 06.46 hours. Three crew members from the Hollinside (Master Edgar Campling) were lost. The master, 33 crew members, eight gunners and six passengers (repatriated survivors from the Avila Star) were picked up by Spanish trawlers and landed at Lisbon. | ||
