At 20.44 hours on 1 Feb 1940 the unescorted Ellen M. (Master Kenneth Mann) was hit in the foreship by one G7e torpedo from U-59 and sank in a few minutes northeast of Lowestoft. The master, six crew members and two gunners were lost.
