Notes on loss

At 00.45 hours on 18 Feb, 1940, the unescorted Ellin was hit by a torpedo from U-37 about 25 miles northwest of Cape Finisterre. The hit had not much effect, so at 01.09 hours a second torpedo was fired that struck amidships and caused the ship to sink immediately after breaking in two.

* Estimated position shown here is based on positions of losses in a roughly the same German grid code. It may be a bit off but should give a good idea as to where the attack took place.
