Notes on event

At 14.45 hours on 12 Dec 1943, HMS Holcombe (L 56) (Lt F.M. Graves, RN) was hit aft by a Gnat from U-593 and sank in less than 5 minutes northeast of Bougie, Algeria. The survivors were picked up by USS Niblack (DD 424). Earlier that day, the U-boat had sunk her sistership HMS Tynedale (L 96) near convoy KMS-34 and was then chased by several escort vessels, which finally sank the U-boat the next day after a 32 hours chase.
