Notes on loss At 19.53 hours on 19 Jun, 1944, the unescorted Garoet (Master P. de Raadt) was hit by two torpedoes from U-181 and sank within minutes. Only a few men survived the sinking and at least one of them was questioned by the Germans. Five survivors were picked up by the British steam merchant Nirvana and five others made landfall at Mauritius.
