History On 15 Aug, 1942, the steam merchant Proletarij was requisitioned as transport by the Soviet Navy and was used in the Northern Fleet. 
Notes on loss At 00.15 hours on 5 Dec, 1944, the Proletarij in convoy PK-20 was hit by one FAT torpedo from U-995 about 15 miles north of Tsyp-Navolok Cape. The ship was probably again hit by a torpedo at 02.03 hours in grid AC 8579 and sank in 30 seconds after a coup de grâce hit at 04.16 hours in grid AC 8821. 29 crew members were lost. The master and 23 survivors were picked up by the Soviet submarine chaser MO-426, but the master and another men later died.
