| Notes on loss | On 18 Dec, 1944, the Silverlaurel (Master John Duncan OBE) in convoy BTC-10 was torpedoed and sunk by U-486 south of the Eddystone Lighthouse. The master, 45 crew members, ten gunners and nine passengers were picked up by the British merchant Monkstone and landed at Plymouth. The Silverlaurel carried 2949 tons of cocoa beans, 2423 tons of palm oil, 758 tons of timber, 303 tons of lumber, 317 tons of rutile (titanium dioxide), 66 tons of coffee, 30 tons of ramie (fibre) and 195 tons of rubber. | ||
