| History | Completed in September 1925 as steam passenger ship Caledonia for Anchor Line (Henderson Bros) Ltd, Glasgow. On 30 Aug 1939, requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to the armed merchant cruiser HMS Scotstoun. | ||
| Notes on event | At 07.16 hours on 13 June 1940, HMS Scotstoun (Capt S.K. Smyth, RN (retired)) of the 10th Cruiser Squadron was hit in the stern by one torpedo from U-25 about 80 miles west of Barra Island, Outer Hebrides. At 17.29 hours, a first coup de grâce missed, but a second hit just aft of the funnel and caused the ship to sink by the stern. Two officers and five ratings were lost. The survivors were picked up by HMS Highlander (H 44) (Cdr W.A. Dallmeyer, RN) and landed at the Clyde on 14 June. | ||
