History Launched as War Char for The Shipping Controller, completed in September 1919 as Whitworth for Robert Stanley Shipping Co Ltd (R.S. Dalgliesh Ltd), Newcastle-upon-Tyne. 1929 transferred to Dalgliesh Steam Shipping Co Ltd, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. 1936 sold to Estonia and renamed Uhti for Peet Rass, Tallinn. 1939 sold to Britain and renamed Springfal for Springfal Shipping Co Ltd (Springwell Shipping), London. 1940 renamed Gasray for Gas Light & Coke Co Ltd (Stephenson Clarke & Co), London. 1944 sold to Williamstown Shipping Co Ltd (Comben Longstaff & Co Ltd), London. 
Notes on event

At 18.59 hours on 5 April 1945 the Gasray (Master R.E. Baker) was torpedoed and sunk by U-2321 two miles north of St. Abbs Head. The master, 11 crew members and four gunners were rescued, six by the St. Abbs Lifeboat and ten by the British coaster Clova and landed at St. Abbs. Six crew members and two gunners were lost.
