Notes on loss On 22 Aug, 1942, U-456 found the Chaika that was anchored off the Matyuschev Isle west of the Matochkin Strait and at 23.00 hours took her in tow unnoticed by the Soviets. After searching the boat she was sunk by scuttling charges. Nothing valuable was found exept of four infantry guns.
