Notes on loss

At 11.20 hours on 23 Sep, 1939, the neutral Walma was stopped by U-4 and examined by a boarding party, which placed scuttling charges after it became clear that she was carrying cargo for England. They exploded at 15.35 hours in grid AO 4195 and the ship sank at 16.15 hours. The U-boat towed the two lifeboats to 5 miles off the Norwegian coast and the survivors were later picked up by the Swedish fishing vessel Zephyr.
