History 1940 the La Brea changed from American flag to British flag. 
Notes on loss At 14.14 hours on 24 Aug, 1940, the La Brea (Master George Edward Firth), a straggler from convoy HX-65, was torpedoed by U-48 and sank after 20 minutes west-northwest of Rockall. The master and one crew member was lost. 14 crew members landed at Islivig Bay, Isle of Lewis and 17 landed at South Uist.
