Notes on event | Between 20.58 and 21.04 hours on 18 Oct 1940, U-46 fired four single torpedoes at convoy SC-7 about 100 miles west by south of Barra Head and claimed two ships totalling 8000 grt sunk and one ship with 7000 grt damaged. The U-boat is credited with sinking the Beatus and Convallaria in this attack. The Convallaria stayed afloat for a short time and sank later in position 57°20N/10°40W. The crew was picked up by HMS Fowey (L 15) (Lt C.G. de L. Bush, RN) and landed at Greenock. |
