Notes on event

At 00.37 and 00.43 hours on 20 Oct 1940, U-47 fired one torpedo at convoy HX-79 and reported two ships sunk, but both torpedoes probably hit and sank the La Estancia (Master John Meneely). One crew member was lost. The master, 24 crew members and one passenger were picked up by the HMS Coreopsis (K 32) (LtCdr A.H. Davies) and landed at Gourock. Seven crew members were picked up by Induna and landed at Methil.
