| Notes on loss | At 07.40 hours on 21 Nov, 1940, U-103 fired torpedoes at the convoy OB-244 about 250 miles west of Bloody Foreland and sank the Daydawn. Schütze reported a hit on an unknown steamer running directly for the U-boat, but the torpedo glanced off and did not explode. At 07.50 hours another attack was made and the Victoria was sunk. The master and 35 crew members from the Daydawn (Master James Horsfield) were picked up by the British corvette HMS Rhododendron (K 78) (LtCdr W.N.H. Faichney). Two crew members were lost. | ||
