Notes on loss At 15.30 hours on 6 Apr, 1941, the unescorted Lincoln Ellsworth was torpedoed by U-94 about 150 miles west of Iceland and sunk at 16.01 hours by a coup de grâce and gunfire. 13 survivors in one lifeboat were picked up after two days by an escort vessel, while 16 others in a second boat were rescued on 8 April by several small Icelandic fishing boats out of Hellissandur.
