Attacks on this boat and other events

25 Oct 1944
A boat was attacked and damaged by aircraft from the Guadalcanal hunter-killer group. Blair claims this was U-170, but that boat reported "Very quiet day ... far away depth charges heard". (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 621)

31 Oct 1944
The boat reported an attack on a convoy escorted by "destroyers" and fired a T5 torpedo, but was in return depth charged and severely damaged (War Diary, KTB).

5 Nov 1944
The boat reported Schnorchel damage from depth charging and an intention to return for repair. She docked in Norway on 30 Nov. (Sources: Blair, vol 2, page 621)

3 recorded attacks on this boat.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-170 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
