The Commander, Oblt. Horst Günther, left the boat on 30 April 1945 to take command of a type VIIC boat. U-2533 was then taken over by the IWO, Oblt. Josef Rink. The crew waited at Travemünde for orders to sail to Bergen but after the cease-fire they sailed out, most of the crew got off while the machine crew prepared to scuttle the boat.
Men lost from U-boats
Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-2533 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
