Fate

Renamed S 1 after being transferred to Italy in exchange for transport vessels. Reverted to Germany as U-428 after the Italian surrender.

Scuttled on 3 May, 1945 in the Nord-Ostsee canal at Audorf, in position 54.19N, 09.40E.

Wreck broken up in 1946.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-428 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
