Attacks on this boat
1 Aug 1940
On 1 Aug 1940 at 16.02 hrs, Dutch submarine O-21 (Lt. Cm. J.F. Van Dulm) spotted U-60 (Schnee) heading for Bergen. Thirteen minutes later, O-21 fired two torpedoes from 2000 range of meters, but both missed. U-60 was unaware of the attack. Later that day, at 18.00, O-22 (Lt. Cm. J.W. Ort), patrolling north of her sister ship, also spotted U-60, but range was too great for an attack. Next evening, U-60 was attacked off Hagesund in error by German Ju 88 aircraft of KG30 flying from Stavanger, Norway to raid the Orkneys, but the boat suffered no damages.

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-60 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
