Scuttled on 24 February 1944 in the Strait of Gibraltar north of Tangier, in position 35.55N, 05.45W, after being badly damaged by depth charges from the British destroyers HMS Anthony and HMS Wishart, a British Catalina (202 Sqn RAF/G), a US Ventura (VB-127 USN/B-46) and two US Catalina aircraft (VP-63 USN/P-14 & P-15). 9 dead and 48 survivors. | |||||||||
