U-367 reported the last time at 17h50 on 15 March 1945 while returning to Hela from the front-line training grounds, but failed to arrive. The route it took was "Weg 76" that had been mined by the Soviet submarine L-21 on 13 March, this was not yet known to the Germans and U-367 struck one of these mines. This was confirmed when its wreck was discovered a few years ago less than 3 nm from Hela, the mine explosion broke the U-boat in two at the conning tower - it must have sunk immediately with no time for the crew to send a radio message or to abandon ship.

The origin of the distress signal about a mine hit in AO 9573 at 23h59 on 16 March 1945 is still unclear. It certainly was not from U-3010, but could also not have been from U-367 which must have already been lost in the late evening on 15 March.
