John, I'll try to upload the rest of the screencaps related to this matter either tonight or tomorrow on my Google Drive (well, as soon as I finish making the rest of them) and share the whole folder here - hope it will work. There is one other thing there, that confused me a bit, but I bet you experts won't have any trouble finding an answer. But more about that later.
Thank you, Walter, for making sure this info will end up in the right place. I've always found DUIKBOOT very helpful and after going through this ton of documents myself, I appreaciate the work that was put into creating that database even more.
To tell the truth, I didn't find going through these files tedious - most of the time. I was amazed by what could be found there. Cutting fingers, all kinds of accidents, poems, births of children, picking up balls of rubber, desertions, stealing of paintings, depth-charging rocks instead of submarines, Dönitz's admonitory messages, obsessions with iron crosses, football, 1001 spelling of Oranjefontein (seriously; how could they not know what the ship's name was), requests to be allowed to attack hospital ships, sending of instructions on how to treat a heart attack of the CO to the wrong u-boat, requests for christmas trees, vermin and lice, dangerous potato salads, collisions between u-boats... I even learned how to make soap out of cats and dogs. Depressing? Yes. Tedious? Rarely.
