The white pennants with tonnage numbers were generally made by the crew on the
journey home after a patrol. In the early years of the war,it was the practice where possible,to remove flags from sinking ships to display as Battle Trophies pennants or ensigns as mentioned in the book by Jordon Vause Wolfgang Luth U-Boat Ace.
These flags were generally displayed as they entered port to the sound of the band and cheers from admiring spectators. Any comments on this?
Dave
