Here's what I read in "U-Boot im Focus", edition No. 3, 2008.
The article is about U-70 but mentions following about Prien's boat, U-47:
On 20 February 1941, in bitter cold, Kptlt. Matz took U70 to sea on its first patrol,... On 3 March it was ordered by the BdU to join a picket line of eight boats (U47, U95, U99, U108, U552 plus the "Barbarigo" and "Vellala") which, together with Fw 200s of KG40, was to engage westbound convoy OB.293, which had been sighted by a Fw 200 the day before... Not until 6 March did U47 (Prien) locate the convoy souteast of Iceland. During the night of 6-7 March, in rain and fog, Prien led U70 and U99 to the heavily-escorted convoy. While the escorts initially forced Prien away, U70 was able to torpedo three ships during the night...
The article ends that like U70, and less then 24 hours after U70, Korvetten Kapitan Prien was also sunk by escorts.
