Hi Will,
Ofc you know the upper deck hatch was a rectangular wooden grating type lid, hinged on the fwd end. This opened standing up just past 90 degr., you can see a conus coming up from the pressure casing at an angle of abt 30degr. broader at the base and slimmer at the top pointing aft. This is topped by a standard 600mm round hatch of identical configuration as the conning twr hatch and all others (standardized all type boats). Hatch is hinged at the upper rim and opens upward in front of upper deck grating described above.
This is a description of the fwd torp hatch. Arrangement on the aft one is sort of mirror reversed with opening pointing fwd at a 30degr up angle.
