Howdy folks...I need some feedback... I've cast resin ship kits in 1/350th scale for some time now...My patterns were sold to Iron Shipwrights awhile agoand I've been on an extended hiatus...until recently.
I am curious to determine the market for 1/72nd scale subs...here's my thoughts.
A vacuformed hull, photoetched deck and side plates, similar to the Amati tooling. Cast resin Tower and accessories, and PE brass fittings where applicable.
Cost of the kits would range from $90 to $150 depending on type and configuration. Various versions of the ships allow the builder to select practically any version of a specific type.
Obvious first choice kits: Type VII, Type IX, I-400, Type XXI, Gato, Balao.
I'd like to hear from the community. I will NOT be using the Amati kit or Combat Models tooling in these new kits. Everything will be master patterned by myself or others in the business who's work I trust.
I will also entertain suggestions, data, and assistance if anyone wants to get involved. I have no clue on the financial returns, typically, we don't make much money in this business, we do it because we love the subject matter.
Regards,
Jeff Herne
