Hi Mark,
Uboats were not painted with a "Wasserpass" or "boottop" contrary to surface ships. Thus it was a lighter grey topsides directly bordering the very dark blackish grey of the bottom. Use latter colour for metal parts on deck incl. C/T floors, except the obvious wooden parts which sould have this colour as base with small amount of brown mixed in. Use search engine in this forum on painting hull. Plenty to read there.
Btw the final painted product on OTW's website is just fine, if I remember correctly. Rgds, RB
